Wells-next-the-Sea is a popular seaside holiday spot today. Since medieval times it has been one of the most principle ports of North Norfolk and there's plenty of history wherever you go and the great thing is that you can do most of it on foot. Re-live the last scene in Shakespeare in Love by walking along the vast, rolling golden sands of Holkham Beach, explore the narrow streets and fascinating shops in the town centre, visit the Maritime Museum or just watch the world sail by from the Quay. Wells-next-the-Sea is just as lovely in the autumn and winter. From the Inn you can hear the thousands of geese that winter here, and there are world-renowned bird reserves at Cley and Titchwell close by. If you enjoy the outdoors life then there is horse racing at Fakenham and two of the finest golf links in the county - The Royal West Norfolk at Brancaster and Hunstanton Golf Club are just minutes away. The Earl of Leicester's stately Holkham Hall and landscaped deer park is only a mile away. |
